Project Summary

Chemical Dependency Treatment for Offenders
The Institute will review the evaluation literature to determine the effectiveness of chemical dependency programs delivered in adult criminal justice and juvenile justice systems. We will identify characteristics of chemical dependency programs that are cost-effective at reducing crime and substance abuse. Specifically, the review will include an examination of the types of chemical dependency treatments, the duration of treatment necessary to achieve reductions in recidivism and substance abuse, and the costs of treatment. The report is due on December 15, 2012.
