| The legislature created a joint legislative task force to review the underground economy in the construction industry and formulate a state policy to increase the oversight and regulation of the underground economy practices in the state. The task force contracted with the Institute to assist it in determining the extent and projected costs to the state and workers of the underground economy in the construction industry. The task force reported its findings and recommendations to the Legislature on January 1, 2008 and January 1, 2009. The task force may continue to contract with the Institute through December 2009.
